A number of these were recced over at [ profile] veni_vidi_vids, or posted at [ profile] vidding, which is how I found them in the first place. This list will be updated the more I watch, with the videos that I think are especially memorable. Fandoms are ordered alphabetically, within the subsections vids are in the order I encountered them in.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

[personal profile] thedeadparrot's Paper Planes (M.I.A). Toph kicks some serious butt. So does this video, I love the sync of audio and video, especially in the chorus, and it's tremendous fun to watch, and a wonderful kick-off (heh) for this recs post.

[ profile] bananainpyjamas's Heavenly (The Dandy Warhols). Zuko is a complex character, and this more than does him justice.

Yanny333b's Stream of Life (Palbasha Siddique), lyrics in comments here. Ensemble, spoilers for the entirety of Avatar, but the editing is completely amazing, and the vidder deserves major bonus points for using a powerful Bengali song based on the Gitanjali poems for an Asian-inspired fantasy setting.

Battlestar Galactica

[ profile] chaila43's Cathedrals (Jump, Little Children). Caprica, an achingly beautiful video.

Doctor Who

[ profile] kaydeefalls's Stray Italian Greyhound (Vienna Teng). The Doctor, Amy Pond.

diarmi's You'll Be Bright (Cloud Cult). The wonderful female characters of Doctor Who.

such_heights's Lullaby for a Stormy Night (Vienna Teng). W(h)ee!Amelia. :3

[ profile] greensilver Change of Time (Josh Ritter). A Rory Williams character study.

[ profile] y_fish's Defying Gravity (Wicked). The women of Firefly. Watch it, seriously.

Lord of the Rings

[ profile] rdphantom's A Thousand Years (Sting). Hypnotic and amazing Fellowship video.

[ profile] wolfling's Winter (Tori Amos). Featuring Éowyn and Theoden, beautifully sad, and sheds an incredible light on their relationship.

[ profile] tehlime's Into the Water (Laura Marling). Frodo's Quest and the burden he carries.

Return of the King, Uh Huh (Tom Smith). Just what it sounds like. Whacky fun using the animated LotR versions.

Stargate: SG1

kuwdora's I Wish I Was a Punkrocker (Sandi Thom). My second girlcrush in all her glory: Sam. SamSamSamSam. Awesomeness condensed into one amazing vid.

Pokerface (Lady Gaga). Yes, it's Lady Gaga. It's also perfect source, perfectly vibrant editing, and it's Daniel/Vala. Hence, divine. (And no, that is not meant to be a pun on her name. Or is it?)

[ profile] secretlytodream's I Know I'm a Wolf (The Young Heretics). Sam's Dark Side (with a possible AU ending).

[ profile] secretlytodream's The Roaring of Lions, the Howling of Wolves (Thrice). Another dark Supernatural AU. Dean is telling Sam to kill.

The X-Files

[ profile] laurashapiro's Rook (XTC). A Mulder character study and his search for answers.

[ profile] laurashapiro's and [ profile] killahbeez Not Only Human (Heather Nova). The Scully counterpart to the above.

All the Right Moves (One Republic). Period Drama Dance. Upbeat eyecandy, brilliant. *squee*

[ profile] eruthros's and [ profile] thingswithwings's One Night Fandoms (Angel of the Morning). A multifandom tribute to Yuletide, but wonderful even in August.

[ profile] arefadedaway's One Girl Revolution (Superchick). Multifandom. Women are kickass, and this vid makes it abundantly clear.

[Vid] LotR: Walk On (Aragorn/Arwen)

So -- my first ever video, originally created for [ profile] themiddleearth's fan video challenge. It is a pretty abysmal job, I knew that before in some respects and know even better now after reading up on [ profile] vidding and watching some of the videos posted there.

All the same, I would be glad about helpful pointers on what to do better (and yes, I am aware of the DivX logo and the stray frames) but decided to leave this in all of its awful glory for future generations review.

Song: Walk On
Artist: U2
Fandom: Lord of the Rings
Characters: Arwen and Aragorn
Summary: And if your glass heart should crack... walk on. The journeys of Arwen and Aragorn.
Notes: Movieverse, pretty inevitably. Please feel free to concrit away!

Ficlet: The Follower

Originally written for the Cuiviénen challenge at B2MeM 2010 over at SWG, and then rather far from happy with it, I gave this some time to simmer and twisted and added a bit here and there. I abandoned the drabble format and introduced some different imagery that perhaps goes some way toward explaining Fingon's motives for the outcome of this AU, if you want to use the term motives at all.

Warning for AU, death scenarios, grisly imagery, blood.

The challenge: Choose a favorite novel, short story, or poem. Write down the first line from it. Begin a story or poem using that line (or create an artwork that could be inspired by a scene beginning with that line). If the line has names or places that do not appear in your story, you may substitute something more appropriate.

Based on the beginning of a Neil Gaiman short story:

I guess I've been following Scarlet for a long time now. (Pages from a Journal Found in a Shoebox Left in a Greyhound Bus Somewhere Between Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Louisville, Kentucky – Neil Gaiman, in Fragile Things)

I guess I've been following Russandol for a long time now. )

B2MeM 2010: Unravelling

Summary: The Doomsman of the Valar sees many things. Elwing's life is one of them.
Warnings: Features the kinslayings of Doriath and Sirion, so involves (hopefully implicit) mentions of death and violence.

Thank you, Lyra, for the MEFA Nomination!

Daily Drabble #3

I didn't expect this to be written, but after another remark from [ profile] aria_elwen the plotbunnies decided they wanted a continuation of Drabbles #1 and #2. 100 words in Open Office, PG, AU, allusions to character death if you want to read it that way. Comes out of too many strange thoughts, but it seemed fitting at that point.

Daily Drabble #1 & #2

As mentioned over in my own journal, I'm resuming my Daily Drabble Project. While I can't promise that they will be posted daily, I'll try to make at least one post per week containing that week's drabbles.

Prompted by [ profile] aria_elwen: What if Morgoth had stolen the Silmarils but Finwe had lived?

Two drabbles, PG for non-graphic mentions of violence, AU. 100 words each according to Open Office.

Art: Fog on the Barrow-downs

Certainly the distances had now all become hazy and deceptive [...]. But even as he spoke he turned his gaze eastwards, and and he saw that on that side the hills were higher and looked down upon them; and all those hills were crowned with green mounds, and on some were standing stones, pointing upwards like jagged teeth out of green gums.

Art: The Kindler

With Manwe dwells Varda, Lady of the Stars, who knows all the regions of Eä. Too great is her beauty to be declared in the words of Men or Elves, for the Light of Ilúvatar lives still in her face. In light is her power and her joy. [...] Of all the Great Ones who dwell in this world the Elves hold Varda most in reverence and love. Elbereth they name her, and they call upon her name out of the shadows of Middle-earth, and uplift it in song at the rising of the stars.

Art: Thangorodrim

Since I decided to label this as 'mature content' for obvious reasons, you'll need an account at DeviantArt to see the picture in full view. For those of you who don't have one, I also uploaded it here.

Maedhros was ambushed, and all his company were slain; but he himself was taken alive by the command of Morgoth, and brought to Angband. [...] Therefore Morgoth took Maedhros and hung him from the face of a precipice upon Thangorodrim, and he was caught to the rock by the wrist of his right hand in a band of steel.

(J.R.R. Tolkien, The Silmarillion, Of the Return of the Noldor)
